Job Summary

This ten-week paid internship is located in Chicago, IL 

What Are Your Responsibilities? 
Project Management Interns are responsible for actively participating in HCSC’s formal internship program that leverages your skills, knowledge, and capabilities while providing meaningful experience supporting business objectives and member-focused solutions. Working closely with cross-functional teams in both business and technical areas, the Project Management Intern will contribute to project work, analyze information, and support the development of solutions that address organizational needs. The Project Management Intern is responsible for learning and applying specific aspects of the organization's processes, programs, and technologies while demonstrating increasing independence and ownership of assigned deliverables. 

The Project Management Associate Internship is a highly selective development program designed for exceptional students who aspire to become future business, technology, and transformation leaders.

This is not a traditional internship. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in both Enterprise Project Management and Applied Artificial Intelligence, enabling interns to develop modern project delivery skills while learning how AI is transforming portfolio management, business operations, and enterprise decision-making. AI adoption, experimentation, and practical application will be a key area of focus throughout the internship experience.

As a member of our Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO), you will work alongside experienced project and portfolio leaders who drive strategic initiatives across the organization. Interns gain hands-on exposure to enterprise-scale programs, emerging technologies, executive-level stakeholder engagement, and industry-leading project delivery practices.

Through immersive experiences, meaningful project work, and direct mentorship, you will develop practical skills that extend far beyond the classroom while building a strong foundation for a career in project management, business transformation, technology, or consulting.

 

This role will also need to:  

• Own components of project work and deliverables with guidance from an assigned mentor and manager.  

• Conduct research, analyze data and information, and develop recommendations that inform real business decisions.  

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams.  

• Support departmental initiatives that improve business outcomes and the member and client experience.  

• Develop and deliver a final internship presentation to department leadership covering the project, results, and recommendations.  

• Maintain complete confidentiality of company business and comply with HIPAA, Diversity Principles, Corporate Integrity, and applicable compliance policies.  

 

What Do You Need To Be Successful?  

• Assist project manager with managing projects and subprojects/work effort 

• Assist in developing project deliverables including project plans, schedules, and status reports 

• Help to facilitate and prepare meetings by scheduling and coordinating agendas and materials, documenting meeting minutes, following up on action items, gathering, organizing, and distributing project-related documentation. 

• Will be responsible for providing project management support under the supervision of the PMO supervisor or manager. 

• Help to manage financials and resources utilizing the Project Portfolio Management Software. 

• Prior internship experience is a plus 

• Leadership experience is a plus 

• Experience with project coordination/management and stakeholder management is a strong plus 

• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills is a strong plus 

• Demonstrated interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication 

• Practical, developed PC skills, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook

AI & Digital Productivity Focus Areas

• Leverage leading AI-powered productivity platforms, such as Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365, to improve project delivery, reporting, communications, and knowledge management.
• Research, evaluate, and apply emerging AI technologies and delivery capabilities, including tools such as GitHub Copilot, AI-assisted software development platforms, intelligent automation solutions, and agentic AI workflows. Provide recommendations on practical business applications and value realization opportunities.
• Partner with EPMO leaders and project teams to identify AI use cases that enhance project execution, portfolio management, resource planning, risk management, status reporting, and stakeholder engagement.
• Develop and optimize AI prompts, workflows, and reusable templates that improve productivity, streamline routine project management activities, and establish best practices for responsible AI adoption.
• Analyze AI-driven productivity gains and business outcomes, helping to measure efficiency improvements, document lessons learned, and support organizational AI maturity initiatives.
• Collaborate on AI transformation and innovation initiatives, supporting pilots, proofs of concept, process automation efforts, and the integration of AI capabilities into EPMO operations and project delivery practices.
• Stay current on evolving AI trends, tools, governance considerations, and industry best practices, sharing insights and recommendations with EPMO leadership and project teams to help advance the organization's AI adoption strategy.

What Are the Requirements You Must Meet? 

• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree; rising senior with a major in project management, computer science, IT, or business. Other majors may be considered. 

• Graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028  

• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0.  

• Available for the full duration of the 10-week program.  

• Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States; sponsorship is not available for this role.

The compensation offered will vary depending on your job-related skills, education, knowledge, and experience. This role aligns with an annual incentive bonus plan subject to the terms and the conditions of the plan.

Flex employees are expected to be in the office a minimum of three days a week. Management will have discretion to modify an employee's weekly schedule for exigent circumstances.

Base Pay Range

$19.13 - $34.17
